「ヒップホップは空気のように吸ってた。」
ビートに囲まれ、ロサンゼルスの現実の中、2歳からその移民生活は始まった。アメリカで育ち、市民権を取得したが部外者という感覚は消えなかった。空気という表現で「疎外感」という空気もあるが、吸えば苦しくなる。ヒップホップとは違ったシステムが製造する「情勢」といったほうが的を射ているかもしれない。「空気だとすれば当然、なくなれば窒息する。」社会の外に押し出された先人のマイノリティーたちが切り拓いた表現：MC、DJ、ブレイキン、グラフィティ。そのDJ文化から派生した「サンプリング」にSRCFLPは拘る。国籍、ジャンル、人種、経済、教育、地位、そのあらゆる境界線で生じる差別をあえてサンプリングを通して問うこの作品。―タイトルに込めた皮肉とマスクの下に潜む叛骨の精神が化学反応を起こし、音として具現化する。「ILL Legal Alien」は限界芸術の息づかいをヒップホップに響かせたミックステープに仕上がっている。
ILL Legal Alien is a sample-based album which aims to interrogate social conditioning and market-based systems. SRCFLP grew up in Los Angeles, but having an American citizenship couldn't resolve the feeling of an outsider. As Hip Hop comes from those pushed to the margins of society — reclaiming space for expression through MCing, DJing, Breaking, and Graffiting — it could be said that all of those acts originate from exclusion. The "alien" face mask, for example, is a reflection of the lived experience of alienation. It’s part homage to his musical heroes; the rest is an artistic statement.
His obsession with sampling is not just a production choice — it’s an act of excavation. It’s finding hidden voices in history, reclaiming dignity of one's own roots, turning what could be called noise into a weapon. By stripping out rap and using found sounds as voice, the collage forms the core message. It cuts straight through the beats — interrogating borders, genres, so-called race, confronting the lines that divide us. We find ourselves in Hip Hop at the edge — born from the margins, refusing to stay contained. For anyone who ever felt like they don’t fit in the system--hit play. You’re not alone. You found your people.
