ヒップホップが土着したアメリカという現実の中で、ソースフリップの移民としての人生は2歳から始まった。ロサンゼルスで育ち、日本とアメリカ、二つの文化のあいだを行き来しながら、永住権を経て市民権を取得した。それでも、「外」にいる感覚だけは消えなかった。
そんな中、ヒップホップは空気のようにそこにあった。社会の周縁へ押し出された人々が切り拓いた表現――MC、DJ、ブレイキン、グラフィティ。その文化の中に、生きる意味と、国境を越えて共有される共感や希望を見出した。
なかでもSRCFLPを強く惹きつけたのが、DJカルチャーから生まれたサンプリングという技法だった。既存の音源を切り刻み、新たな文脈へと組み替えるその行為は、単なる音楽制作の手法ではない。そこには著作権や独占の論理に対抗する、オープンソース的な精神――アンチ・モノポリーであり、デジタル・アナキズムとも呼べる価値観が息づいている。SRCFLPはサンプリングそのものに、ヒップホップが本来持つ反骨の哲学を見ている。
本作『ILL Legal Alien』は、国籍、人種、差別、政治、メディア、教育といったテーマを、多種多様なサウンドバイトのコラージュによって炙り出す。サンプリングによって断片を接続し、当たり前とされてきた価値観をずらしながら、見えない境界線を問い直していく。
これはアルバムであると同時に、ヒップホップの流儀で組み立てられたミックステープでもある。
The experience of being an immigrant began at the age of two, within the reality of America—a nation where Hip Hop had already taken root as a living culture. Raised in Los Angeles, SRCFLP eventually transitioned from permanent residency to U.S. citizenship, becoming American in every official sense. Yet the feeling of being an outsider never fully disappeared.
Amid that tension, Hip Hop was always there, like air itself. In the creative practices forged by marginalized communities pushed to the edges of society—MC, DJ, Breakin', and Graffiti—he discovered not only a sense of purpose, but also a language of empathy and hope that transcended borders.
Among Hip Hop's many innovations, SRCFLP became particularly captivated by sampling. Beyond its sonic possibilities, sampling embodies a deeper philosophy: one that challenges notions of ownership, exclusivity, and monopoly. At its core lies an open-source spirit—part anti-monopoly ethos, part digital anarchism—that treats culture as something to be shared, transformed, and reimagined. In the act of sampling itself, he finds a form of resistance.
ILL Legal Alien unfolds as a Hip Hop mixtape in both form and attitude. Through the collage and juxtaposition of diverse sound bites, it interrogates questions of nationality, race, discrimination, politics, media, and education—systems that often shape perception as much as they shape reality. By stitching together fragments from across cultural and ideological boundaries, the album turns sampling into a method of inquiry—revealing the invisible borders that shape identity, belonging, and power.
